Friday mixed bag

Remember last week I was in the audience of the Adam Hills in Gordon Street Tonight show? Well I saw an extras video online, and there's a quick glimpse of my friend and I.

My friend's Eurochopper got a workout by Hannah Gadsby.

Meanwhile, this is outfit 27 of the 30 for 30 remix. I did have my mint green blazer but it hung over my chair for most of the day.
It was my last day in my awesome events planner role for a little while - I begin a new opportunity at a more senior role on Monday, until June - but am still working on a big event until mid-March. I won't lie - I am feeling quite nostalgic today and will miss this job a lot. The job and my managers are the best experiences of my career so far. But a new opportunity awaits and who knows where it will take me?

I am relaxing tonight before I spend a day with my Mum tomorrow. I am tired and sore, so I am happy to do a little writing, listen to a little music...

drink a little cider...
...and read a little about Melbourne's fashion.
Happy Friday!

The end is nigh

I'm on the home stretch of the 30 for 30 remix.

It's easy not to shop, but as I wrote last week, it feels a little dull to only have a small portion of my wardrobe to choose from. It's like wearing a uniform, but takes more thinking. I want to wear my cornflower blue dress that I wore to the Rush premiere. I want to wear my red skirt. My navy ruffle top. The multitude of dresses I have for work. I want to dive into my wardrobe and go crazy. I really have no desire to buy anything new. Except to replace my Diva bling ring that I have lost. One thing I have discovered is that I could quite happily wear my black ballet flats forever. Versatile!

Outfit 24. A bit the same as outfit 23. A bit different too.
Target blazer, Valleygirl tee and skirt, Diana Ferrari shoes, Mimco headband, Lavallier bangle and Tiffany necklace.
Outfit 25. I felt like I was wearing a bodysuit. I used to have a floral bodysuit from Miss Shop, circa 1993. It was cold so I wore my lace flower scarf and pleather jacket.
Someone said it was a good outfit. I think it was too. My boobs looked big yet my tummy was flat. Win!
Sussan cardi, Mink Pink skirt, Basque top, Diana Ferrari shoes, Mimco headband, Lavallier bangle and Tiffany necklace.
Outfit 26. I had lunch at the hospital with lovely Camille, blogger from Curlypops, who guest blogged earlier. It was nice to see her - and hopefully next time we won't meet at the hospital!
I wore Target blouse and trousers, Cotton On cardi, Diana Ferrari shoes, Mimco headband and Lavallier bangle - I am loving the bangle!

Hope you all had a good day!

On a serious note, my thoughts are with the New Zealanders who have endured a serious earthquake. It's tragic. Mother nature has not been kind recently.

Go on, you deserve it!

As a woman and I stood in the queue at Hausfrau in Yarraville on Saturday, lamenting whether to choose a sweet or savoury treat, or both, I said to her, 'Go on, you deserve it'. And she laughed, saying she did deserve a sweet treat alongside her savoury and salad. And I deserved it too. Two plates of deliciousness. And then some.

I admit, my diet this weekend has not been balanced. It's been heavy on the comfort, light on the healthy.

I guess some belly dancing being in the same room as belly dancers because it was too hot and humid for me to take part gave me solace that I was sort of exercising the comfort food off. Through osmosis?

Outfit 22 of the 30 for 30 remix: harem pants, Bob Evans tee, Mimco headband and hip scarf and Jiffies.
On the way to Hausfrau, I saw this awesome street art.
I sat down for a late lunch and the Saturday Age. Elderflower is my favourite boutique softdrink.
First course was Croque Monsieur. Toasted ham white bread sandwich topped with bechamel sauce and cheese. Yum.
Then a blueberry Madeleine cake, eaten as I read how to make a chocolate cognac cake. The cake I ate was like a bread and butter pudding.
Two plates of deliciousness indeed.

I went to Hausfrau on my way to see Rabbit Hole at the cinema (to cool down).

Rabbit Hole is a play-turned-film about a couple, Becca and Howie, grieving after the death of their young son. I guess it's about when's the right time to 'get on' with life after you lose a child, and the strength needed to get through the darkness.
The theme that was apparent to me were the conditions grieving people unintentionally place on others, and the difficulty of not knowing how to handle other peoples' grief as an outsider. Grief stricken peoples' worlds stop while it turns for the rest of us. I particularly liked the relationship and subsequent forgiveness Becca gave the teenage driver who killed her son. It was very moving, and very sad. And Nicole Kidman's expressions were visible despite the botox.

On a side note, there were some teenagers in the cinema having sex in the back row. It was rather unnerving. I wondered whether people just pick any film to 'view' so they can have sex. And then I wondered how many people do this, and whether I've sat on a chair that people have had sex on. And then I had to stop thinking and just watch the film.

Moving on...

I ate half of this trifle for dinner. I told you. More comfort, less health. I deserved it.
Today I met Kristy and her very nice boyfriend for brunch at Fraus.

It was Kristy's birthday yesterday and she had a lovely weekend in Melbourne being spoilt.

Today was Kristy's first Fraus experience. She went into a chocolate coma with a thick hot chocolate...

...and a crepe filled with ricotta, and topped with figs and hot chocolate.

I was recognised by a blog reader. Sassy, left of me in the below picture, was excited to meet me in real life!
I had my usual order: thick hot chocolate and a Florentine crepe. Quite healthy really!
This is outfit 23 of the 30 for 30 remix. Seven to go! Mimco headband, Target blazer, Valleygirl tee, Sussan jeans, Diana Ferrari shoes, Tiffany necklace and Lavallier bangle.
It was lovely seeing Kristy again, and finally meeting her boyfriend. I will see her in a month when I go to Sydney to speak on a panel at the Aussie Blogger's Conference.
I cooked a healthy dinner of pork and vegetables tonight. No pictures. But I did bake a fruit pie, and took pictures, because you deserve it.
Apricots, passionfruit, pears, blueberries, rhubarb, a plum and a fig.
 Yum!

Forgive me Kendi, I have sort of faltered

Today I wore this to work.
Outfit 21: pants from Target, top from Ishka, headband from Witchery, Diva bangle, Tigertree necklace and DFO sandals. The top has a beautiful pleat detail on the vertical blue part and cuffs. Colleagues liked it.
And I sort of faltered. I bought stuff. And some more, not pictured, but they are for a birthday present and so don't count in this remix/shopping ban.

My colleagues thought my purchases were the only logical thing to do. For Borders has gone bust and was given a birthday voucher for a generous sum, and they were only honouring vouchers if you spent the equivalent of the voucher. I didn't know how much longer I could keep my voucher for. And so I shopped.
I panic shopped. I bought a cute little bag for my belly dancing shoes and scarf, and several books, a homeware item a magazine and a card. Everything I bought I wanted, so it was not impulse buying.

Initially I was annoyed by having to spend $100 to use a voucher that had already been paid for. But now I've been to Borders, spent $100+ and seen forlorn staff fending off customers and being interviewed by the media, and worrying about whether they've got a job in the near future, I don't feel so hard done by. The poor staff were consoling customers and genuinely worried about their jobs. It's so sad. I love Borders. I loved poring through the Kurt Cobain books before I moved here to Melbourne. I loved reading magazines on their comfy chairs when the temperature was ridiculous. And I loved the cook books. But now with the trend of online bookstores and e-books, and competitive global rates, the physical bookstores are suffering. I noticed the demise of Borders' CD stock a while back, and now their DVD are dwindling, they have homewares, and a smaller range of books.

My panic shopping and 30 for 30 interlude is justified when a store I have a voucher for goes into voluntary administration. Even Kendi Everyday would agree. I only went to one store, and no clothes were bought.

Tonight is nice. I'm dead tired, so am relaxing. Wine, music, dark chocolate and reading The Secret Life of Dresses, which is a book based on the A Dress a Day blog.

I hope my blog is made into a book one day!

PS: you only have a few days left to vote for me (Tune into Radio Carly) in the Best Kept Secret category of the Bloggie Awards. Thanka!

Remix round up

Here is most of my work week of 30 for 30 remix outfits. So close to the finishing line!

It's been fun, but I miss my wardrobe of a million things!

The no shopping thing isn't killing me as much as last week, and I'm not even sad about staying away from the shops.

What is difficult is the lack of clothing choices I have. I yearn to wear some of my items. I think this challenge is teaching me to appreciate what I have in my wardrobe.

Monday. Outfit 16. I had work then the taping of the Adam Hills in Gordon Street Tonight show.
My only acknowledgment of Valentine's Day was asking a courier if the flowers were for me.
I wore a Target dress, Sportsgirl blazer, Wittner heels, Mimco floral headband and bangle and Tiffany necklace.
I also met Megan Gale.
Tuesday. Outfit 17. I was tired from the late night previously. I worked. And was appointed to a more senior role, temporarily, starting soon.
I wore my Target blouse, Valleygirl skirt, Diana Ferrari shoes, Mimco floral headband and Temt scarf.
I like this outfit a lot. And so did a truck driver, it seemed. He gave me a thumbs up while I was being photographed!
Wednesday. Outfit 18. More work. And humidity. Humidity makes my curls good. I like this outfit a lot too!
Target pants, DFO sandals, Sussan cardi, Valleygirl tee, Mimco floral headband, Tiffany necklace, Lavallier bangle.
Wednesday night. I went out to dinner. It was hot and rainy. I met a beautiful dog that I spent a lot of time patting. He was adorable.
I wore Witchery cardi and bangle, Sunnygirl dress, leather sandals, Tiffany necklace and Mimco bow headband.
Thursday. Beautiful and sunny. I voted for a meeting in the park. Colleagues who didn't attend said 'awww'.
 I tried a bandana again.
I wore skirt by Valleygirl, top by Temt, cardi by Cotton On, brooch handmade from broken clip on earring, scarf is years old and I think Sportsgirl, shoes by Diana Ferrari, hairclips from Mimco and necklace by Tiffany.
I sense a theme. Mimco and Tiffany.

In mundane news:

I baked a really good beige dinner on Tuesday night. Roast chicken Maryland and Dutch cream potatoes. Tasted so yummy, probably really bad for me.

And I was excited about dipping into my GIANT tub of cream (vaseline). Look how much bigger it is compared to my usual quantity!

Jebediah at the St Kilda Festival

After eight years living in Melbourne, I went to the St Kilda Festival for the first time on Sunday.  I happened to leave my camera battery charging at home, so I had to make do with my iPhone camera. I was disappointed. Apologies.

It was a beautiful day. I only went for two hours. Just to see Jebediah.
So many people packed the streets, enjoying the free entertainment and stalls.
Jebediah played on the foreshore near the sea baths. I loved their energy. I'm glad they're still kicking around.
There was moshing. And crowd surfing. Much different to a Bob Evans gig I'm used to. I loved it!
I was so so happy to hear Harpoon then She's Like a Comet. I died. Wow.
My week-long crash course in listening to Jebediah songs paid off because I knew a lot more words than I thought I did!
I started off viewing them from far away then realised I could have been down the front for a longer time!
I saw a man with two beautiful Newfoundlands. They were so affectionate. And big! I asked for a photo. He asked me to hold them while he took the photo. I was hoping they'd stay still, because they'd just bolted after some small dogs.
Fortunately there were no uh-oh moments. Unfortunately you can't really see me in the photos. But the dogs still look gorgeous. And I was still doing the 30 for 30 remix - outfit 15: Bob Evans tee, denim shorts, hat, sunnies and ballet flats.

Someone kindly recorded Harpoon. I die.
