Go on, you deserve it!

As a woman and I stood in the queue at Hausfrau in Yarraville on Saturday, lamenting whether to choose a sweet or savoury treat, or both, I said to her, 'Go on, you deserve it'. And she laughed, saying she did deserve a sweet treat alongside her savoury and salad. And I deserved it too. Two plates of deliciousness. And then some.

I admit, my diet this weekend has not been balanced. It's been heavy on the comfort, light on the healthy.

I guess some belly dancing being in the same room as belly dancers because it was too hot and humid for me to take part gave me solace that I was sort of exercising the comfort food off. Through osmosis?

Outfit 22 of the 30 for 30 remix: harem pants, Bob Evans tee, Mimco headband and hip scarf and Jiffies.
On the way to Hausfrau, I saw this awesome street art.
I sat down for a late lunch and the Saturday Age. Elderflower is my favourite boutique softdrink.
First course was Croque Monsieur. Toasted ham white bread sandwich topped with bechamel sauce and cheese. Yum.
Then a blueberry Madeleine cake, eaten as I read how to make a chocolate cognac cake. The cake I ate was like a bread and butter pudding.
Two plates of deliciousness indeed.

I went to Hausfrau on my way to see Rabbit Hole at the cinema (to cool down).

Rabbit Hole is a play-turned-film about a couple, Becca and Howie, grieving after the death of their young son. I guess it's about when's the right time to 'get on' with life after you lose a child, and the strength needed to get through the darkness.
The theme that was apparent to me were the conditions grieving people unintentionally place on others, and the difficulty of not knowing how to handle other peoples' grief as an outsider. Grief stricken peoples' worlds stop while it turns for the rest of us. I particularly liked the relationship and subsequent forgiveness Becca gave the teenage driver who killed her son. It was very moving, and very sad. And Nicole Kidman's expressions were visible despite the botox.

On a side note, there were some teenagers in the cinema having sex in the back row. It was rather unnerving. I wondered whether people just pick any film to 'view' so they can have sex. And then I wondered how many people do this, and whether I've sat on a chair that people have had sex on. And then I had to stop thinking and just watch the film.

Moving on...

I ate half of this trifle for dinner. I told you. More comfort, less health. I deserved it.
Today I met Kristy and her very nice boyfriend for brunch at Fraus.

It was Kristy's birthday yesterday and she had a lovely weekend in Melbourne being spoilt.

Today was Kristy's first Fraus experience. She went into a chocolate coma with a thick hot chocolate...

...and a crepe filled with ricotta, and topped with figs and hot chocolate.

I was recognised by a blog reader. Sassy, left of me in the below picture, was excited to meet me in real life!
I had my usual order: thick hot chocolate and a Florentine crepe. Quite healthy really!
This is outfit 23 of the 30 for 30 remix. Seven to go! Mimco headband, Target blazer, Valleygirl tee, Sussan jeans, Diana Ferrari shoes, Tiffany necklace and Lavallier bangle.
It was lovely seeing Kristy again, and finally meeting her boyfriend. I will see her in a month when I go to Sydney to speak on a panel at the Aussie Blogger's Conference.
I cooked a healthy dinner of pork and vegetables tonight. No pictures. But I did bake a fruit pie, and took pictures, because you deserve it.
Apricots, passionfruit, pears, blueberries, rhubarb, a plum and a fig.
 Yum!

Remix catch up.

Here are two outfits from the 30 for 30 fashion remix. I'm almost a week in. It's fun. Let me know if you're doing the remix too!

Sunday was dinner out. I went corporate rockstar.

Maybe corporate rock fan is more accurate. Band tee, blazer, skirt, glitter tights, ballet flats and necklace.
I have never worn this skirt outside of work. Now I might just do that. It works well.
Blazer from Target, Bob Evans tee, skirt from Valleygirl, shoes from Diana Ferrari. My belt is about 10 years old, from Jay Jays. The brooch on the belt is an old belt buckle I had from when I was three. My ring is Diva and looks more blingy than my Tiffany necklace. I don't know where my tights are from.
I ate this. A chicken parma. It was so-so.
I drank this. It was my friend's suggestion. Raspberry cider. Apple cider with a splash of raspberry cordial. It was great!
Today was a beautiful day. Much cooler than it has been. And sunny. This was the sky.
And here's what I wore today. I dreamed that this remix would work. It worked well, but I felt quite short and bulky in my blouse.
I am happy with the colours together, and I mixed prints as suggested by a lovely blog reader (and blogger) Wandering and Blathering.
My blouse is from Target, cardi from Witchery, skirt is Mink Pink, shoes are Diana Ferrari, hairclip is Mimco and ring is Diva.
Hope you all had a good Monday!

Challenging the remix

hello
Tuesday was the first day of the 30 for 30 remix challenge! (Remember my items?) And it was a challenge. 40 degrees and two outfits needed!

First up was work. I started the extremely hot day with a really hearty porridge. I woke up from the heat at 5.00 am so I cooked quinoa in the microwave ready for when I got out of bed at 7.15 am. I then added oats and a chopped apple, and milk, and cooked it on the stove while I showered. When I came to eat it, I added one banana, a handful of blueberries, a spoon of yoghurt and some brown sugar. I had half a mango nectar too. It was great, and kept my tummy full until 12.30 pm!
I wanted my clothes to keep me cool. But I got cold in the office at work so I went out few times to get a blast of 40 degree wind.

I wore three of my remix items here. I took the mint green blazer too but didn't wear it.
My dress is Sunnygirl, cardi is Sussan, singlet is Metalicus, sandals made way back when I was at highschool, headband is Mimco, necklace is Wiyomu and bangle is Diva.
Good outfit, and lots of comments on my dress!

Next was the Sia concert.
The temperature dropped to 25 degrees by then. There were nice views of the bay.
 And the Palais looked beautiful.
I was excited about this outfit. I took inspiration from Dirty Hair Halo. If I couldn't wear my turquoise pyjama pants to Sia, when could I?

Unfortunately I didn't have a friend to photograph my outfit at Sia, so I got a stranger to photograph me near the poster. It was a good excuse for a photo, and I didn't want to explain the whole remix challenge to him. He took two photos, but cut off my legs, so you don't get to see the wonderful floaty legs of the pants.
I wore four items from the remix. It was fun!
Pyjama pants from Sussan, shirt from Target, vest from Truworths in South Africa, high heeled sandals (not pictured) from DFO, hairclip from Mimco, necklace from Etsy, ring from Diva and bangle a gift from parents. I had a purple Giordano singlet underneath my shirt. The outfit was cool and made me feel tall.

Wednesday. Not as hot.

Forgot my vaseline. I went to the 7/11 to get a jar.

The 7/11 sales assistant didn't know what vaseline is. I had to explain it to him. 'It's an oil'. And then I wrote a note (on my Facebook) to the 7/11 'sales assistant':

Dear 7/11 register guy. When I ask for Vaseline, I don't need it for cooking. Therefore it won't be kept with the cooking oils.

I was considering pointing out the condoms and lubricants and suggesting one usually finds vaseline there.

I wore top from Temt (which colleagues thought was from Cue!), skirt from Valleygirl, striped tights from Target, bling necklace from Sportsgirl, ring from Div and shoes from Diana Ferrari.

Thursday. I woke to a litany of crap events. Ok, three. In the scheme of the current natural disaster situation, it's not too bad. But still, I felt sad. I couldn't be bothered with the remix challenge, but I held steady and stayed committed. I wanted a punching bag. Instead I took my frustrations out by cleaning at work. I also wanted to pity shop, but I also held steady and resorted to reading Shop til You Drop mag instead. Go me.
To the anon blog commenter who told me that my face is so red I should go on the TV segment Red Faces. Yeah. Your joke's really original. I did actually get a place on TV because of my red face, I bet you're not on TV.
I wore a jacket from Target, skirt from Valleygirl, tee from Jeanswest, necklace from Wiyomu, scarf was a present from Mum and shoes from Diana Ferrari.

Steve Poltz linked to my blog too. And my article for Ramp Up was on the Best of the ABC page! Quite exciting things to happen :)

Dinner with Stella, and more food and clothes too. What's new?

Firstly a huge thank you for all of your kind words and support in response to my previous entry about the teens on the train taking photos of me. I was saddened to read that similar things have happened to some of you, but am glad we can empathise with each other. Your messages on this blog, Facebook and Twitter mean a lot, and make me feel so valued. Thank you!

A funny thing happened on the way to dinner tonight. Well, it's another one of those 'sunburn' moments, but funny in light of what happened last night.

I crossed the road near Federation Square in Melbourne while the man was red. No, he was not sunburnt. (Hahah that wasn't the funny bit.)

Suddenly there was a rush of oncoming traffic coming from around the corner. I quickly ran back across the road to avoid getting hit by a mass of cars.

When I reached the median section of the road, a lady looked at me and said 'what happened to you?'

'Nothing', I replied.

She 'mmm-ed' and then I added 'well, I was just nearly hit by a lot of cars'.

She wasn't impressed with my joking way of not explaining why I am red.

She looked at me disapprovingly then took a step away from me and told me to be careful!

Stella Young, editor of Ramp Up and former host of No Limits, thought this was hilarious! So did I.

I had dinner with Stella tonight at Chocolate Budda in Fed Square.

This is what we ate:

Grilled eggplant skewers (my favourite of the night)
Gyoza dumplings
Inside out pumpkin and tempura nori rolls
We also had tempura vegetables which I failed to photograph as Stella and I were talking enough to generate energy to power a small country. I am surprised we actually had time to eat given our level of conversation. I am so glad we became friends - we have a lot in common - not just disability but our love of music, fashion and writing. She is awesome. And great hair and make up.

I ordered a drink - lychee liquer with lemonade - delicious. The bottle was so tiny, Stella called it 'Stella sized'. See.
I loved the bottle so much I kept it. I couldn't keep Stella though but I will see her again.

This is what I wore to work and dinner today. A colleague asked me whether I feel pressure to wear something cool to work every day. I said no, but photographing outfits for my blog does make me become more creative.
Today I epitomise chainstore chic. Or chainstore Carly. I am wearing a cardi by Cotton On, skirt by Valley Girl, leggings by Kmart, shoes by Diana Ferrari (I have three pairs of the same style in different colours - I love them! All $15 from the outlet!), necklace by Wiyomu at Etsy, headband by Witchery and top by Target. Carrying an Olga Berg purse.
This was my main meal yesterday. Breakfast at 2.00 pm.
Pancakes filled with blueberries and topped with icecream, strawberries and maple syrup. It was sort of delicious if it the pancakes didn't taste like scrambled eggs. Looks much better in the picture.
I also ate a slice of citrus tart and had a glass of wine. Some chocolate mousse topped yoghurt by Yalla - my favourite brand of dairy. And that's about it. I'm definitely not weight conscious on a Sunday.

Oh yeah, this is what I wore on Friday. You can't really see the detail of the dress, but it is very pretty - floral and lace, pink and purple. I am such a girl.
Just in case you want to rush off to the shops to mimic my outfit - I was wearing a dress by Temt, top by Sussan, shoes by Diana Ferrari (as above but in a different colour), headband by Mimco and bangle by Diva. I also had stockings on. I never get around in bare legs. Ever.

Happy Tuesday everyone!
