I think it's really important to resist the victim mentality and I know that's easy to say from the point of view of not having a chronic illness but you have shown it is possible to be a happy, positive person and a valuable member of society on top of the challenges you face physically. Good for you, I think you have a bright future ahead of you and keep up the great blogging work, it's always a breath of fresh air to read your posts!Hollyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05243841590573082124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1720872153813357167.post-71208249017144083732012-09-17T13:01:43.447+10:002012-09-17T13:01:43.447+10:00Carly

They are useful for gaining information and for realising that you are not alone. I think, however, as you experienced that there does come a point where they can become toxic.

Some time ago my chronic illness was gradually improving and I was moving forward with my life, identifying myself less and less by the illness. And that, Carly, seems to be what you have experienced. There is so very much more to you than your illness. Thanks for sharing yourself through your blog. Your resilience is inspiring! xxxNow a Mumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11430176175028492980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1720872153813357167.post-19106946653756529052012-09-17T08:16:46.621+10:002012-09-17T08:16:46.621+10:00This an excellent letter. Like you said, "woe is me, I have it worse, I haven't been as lucky as you", etc.
If you're genetically hard-wired to be happy and positive no matter what, others who aren't will resent you for it and the bitchiness begins....

I do a little of the "woe is me" myself, especially when I've had too many days of pain and stiffness from my back, but I try not to show it on the internet.

I remember you from Sydney, at the ABC, I remember us finding a cafe and having something to drink while you waited for a cab. I wanted so badly to ask about Ichthyosis, because it looks painful and because I'm nosy about things that are unusual to me, but I wasn't sure how to start asking. So I used the internet instead. I remember when I first saw you, I thought you had been very badly sunburned.Riverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14794655013673748992noreply@blogger.com
