One of my favourite songs ever. I don't think it's weird that you love him!Alicenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1720872153813357167.post-39796284396291923472015-06-27T11:15:41.446+10:002015-06-27T11:15:41.446+10:00Yep, I am a "fangirl" about many - if li...Yep, I am a "fangirl" about many - if like a book by an author, I'll seek out their other works, ditto musician actor, to try and find out what makes them think and how they developed their creative processes. I am a fangirl for writers from Edith Wharton to Candace Bushnell. Like you, I don't care if they are considered high or low brow - I like them, at that's enough for me.The Hipsterettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06946317723474517233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1720872153813357167.post-16138687591486170532015-06-25T14:30:15.223+10:002015-06-25T14:30:15.223+10:00I love this! I am *such* a fangirl of so many people/musicians/things (Josh Pyke, Passenger, Sherlock, Harry Potter, the list goes on), and I always feel like such a dag, so it's always so reassuring to hear other people's fangirl stories. Ultimately I think it's just great to unashamedly love stuff! To have passion and enthusiasm and to be interested in the things around you. I can never quite understand people who don't have strong passions or interests and just 'meh' their way through life. Fangirldom for the win! Mainly books and TV shows...I'm a big fangirl, though I'm not into the actual fandoms as much - it think because I like to love things privately, but also I've seen so much negativity.

Do you think though there's a fine line between loving something, escapism and the community and inclusivity that brings - and inadvertently using those things negatively? When you use it to run away from your problems or get so far into the fandom you mix up where fantasy ends and real life begins. Some of the things I've seen in fandoms on tumblr etc are really unhealthy I think. Just interested in your view :)

Also, people who are passionate about something, anything, are infinitely more interesting that those who thing they're too cool for everything ;) Tallulahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06121722655672140287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1720872153813357167.post-53003830069380046072015-06-25T10:18:32.858+10:002015-06-25T10:18:32.858+10:00This is a brilliant post Carly and articulates wha...This is a brilliant post Carly and articulates what I love about fandoms. I saw Tavi's speech a while ago and I pretty much fell in love with her, her wisdom and pretty much everything she does. How wonderful that you have this connection with Darren Hayes xAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09601097404748279747noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1720872153813357167.post-54239269001790160332015-06-25T09:16:54.988+10:002015-06-25T09:16:54.988+10:00I completely understand your love of Savage Garden...I completely understand your love of Savage Garden, they were my favourite band in the 90's as well :D
I remember how hard it was to get all the word out from each phrase in 'I want you' but it never stopped me trying - now I can but I guess my lungs are bigger than they were when I was 14!!
I am a total fangirl of Nathan Fillion, I think he's amazing! But I'm of two minds about meeting him - what if he's not anything like the delightful, daggy mix of the characters that he plays that I imagine him to be from what I've seen and hear of him outside his shows! I feel like my love for his characters and appreciation of him as a person makes me a little scared of ever meeting him - I'd still love to though!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15355720771363507141noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1720872153813357167.post-86749957569104701062015-06-25T08:00:44.286+10:002015-06-25T08:00:44.286+10:00And this is why I take my kids to conventions, and...And this is why I take my kids to conventions, and Free Comic Book Day, and warehouses sales at PopCultcha... surrounded by all these people getting excited by things that the other kids tell them isn't cool, they can get the feeling that this love is bigger than them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
